I’m not big into fit-and-flare, fifties-style dresses because they never look good on me. But if they did, I would definitely wear this one! The cutout yoke keeps it from being too prim and Stepford-y.

Today’s dress is another vacation pick, but I would wear it in snowy Denver with a pair of black tights and tan platforms.

It’s hard to top the drama of floor-length sequins.

Judge me all you want, but I love this dress. It’s perfect for the party girl on New Year’s Eve… and every other weekend of the year. Just add black tights and a sharp blazer (like this one) and you’re good to go!
Thoughts?

So today’s dress is definitely out of my price range, and only available for pre-order, but it’s a look I would like to channel for New Year’s Eve: a bright, “who cares if it’s winter?!” print, an interesting cut, and a fun, short length.
Thoughts?

asos BLACK neoprene laser cut body-conscious dress
Today’s holiday party dress is the result of throwing a scuba diver, a gingerbread house, and a set of laser cats into a dryer together… I love that Asos chose a redhead to model this look.

So today’s dress is actually eight dresses, all in the same style. A gold sequin mini dress just screams “party ready”, but long sleeves and a high neckline keep the look more balanced. It’s all about staying covered up somewhere! (Believe me, you’ll be thankful you did when you find yourself waiting 40 minutes on a frigidly cold EL platform in downtown Chicago on New Year’s Eve.) My favorites are numbers 3, 4, and 5, for their more forgiving shape and muted sparkle. I would style a dress like this with opaque black tights and a pair of bright suede pumps, like these or these. Which one(s) do you like best, and how would you style it?

I love the idea of wearing an unexpected color or silhouette for the holidays. This simple, teal, columnar gown by Tibi is the perfect antidote to the fussy, ruffly, “party glam” concoctions that fill the racks at stores this time of year - don’t get me wrong, I love that stuff, but sometimes a girl needs a break. Somehow, this dress manages to be sultry and eye catching without showing a hint of leg or cleavage. Perfect for the cool, confident woman who will never let the clothes wear her.
